How many revisions should a freelancer include?
There is no standard. Two rounds is a common starting point, so it is a sensible default if you are not sure. Include fewer for small jobs where feedback is quick, and more for complex work with several people giving input. What matters more than the number is that you say what counts as one round and what an extra round costs. Without that, "a few small changes" can run on for weeks.
Revision or new request? How to tell
- A revision changes something you already delivered so it matches the brief you agreed.
- A new request adds something that was not in the brief: a new page, a new feature, a new direction.
- If the client changes their mind about something they approved earlier, treat it as new work and quote it.
- When unsure, ask: could I have done this from the original brief? If not, it is a new request.
Proposal terms vs a full contract
These clauses cover the basics for a small project: what you will do, how many rounds of changes are included, and how you get paid. They do not cover who owns the work, confidentiality, liability, or ending the project early. For large or unusual projects, or where those matter, use a full contract and have a lawyer check it. This tool is not legal advice.
Put the terms where the client must read them
A clause only helps if the client has seen it before saying yes. In Client Kit, the one link proposal, e-sign and payment tool, you set the revision rounds and the price of an extra round when you write the job. The client sees them on the proposal before they sign, and what they agreed is stored with their signature. Pair it with a clear advance request and, if they go quiet, a follow-up that stays polite. See the demo proposal.
Frequently asked questions
How many revisions should I include in a freelance project?
There is no standard. Two rounds is a common starting point. Fewer for small jobs, more for complex work. State what counts as a round and what it costs to add one.
What is a revision, and what is a new request?
A revision changes work you already delivered to match the agreed brief. A new request adds something that was not in the scope, like a new page or a new direction. New requests get a separate quote.
What should freelance payment terms say?
The total fee, the advance amount and when it is due, when the balance is due, how to pay, what happens if payment is late, and whether taxes are extra.
Is a clause in a proposal legally binding once the client signs?
A written agreement that both sides accept is generally treated as binding, but that depends on where you live and how it is worded. This tool gives plain-English terms, not legal advice. For large projects, get a lawyer to check.
What is a scope creep clause?
It says what is included, what is not, and that extra work is quoted and agreed in writing before you start it. It protects your time and the client's budget.
Can I use these clauses in my proposal for free?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no login, and you can copy the text into any proposal, in Google Docs, PDF or Client Kit.
Make the terms part of what the client signs.
Paste these clauses into a Client Kit proposal. Your client reads them, e-signs, and pays the advance to your UPI or payment link on the same page. The advance step and the revision limit are built in. Client Kit takes no cut. Free plan: 3 sends a month, and it never expires.
Founder plan: $9 a month for the first 50 workspaces (priced in rupees in India, ₹749 a month).
Client Kit uses a simple electronic signature and does not make invoices or hold money. This is not legal advice. See pricing or the FAQ.
